I'm a U.S. citizen but I am wondering how supportive of the War in Afghanistan Australians are?

I've heard it's not popular among the population. That would be too bad, that war actually seems necessary. It seems necessary, if for no other reason than it's been started, but hopefully Afghanistan is not allowed to just drift like it was from 1989 to 2001. I realize they are only two answers but the support talked about here seems lukewarm at best.

According to Wikipedia War in Afghanistan (2001–present) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_in_Afghanistan_(2001%E2%80%93present) The troop numbers are as follows. NATO - ISAF: 51,350 US: 19,950 UK: 8,745 Germany: 3,600 France: 3,300 Canada: 2,830 other countries: 20,120 (Dec. 1, 2008) Afghan National Army: 50,000 US non-ISAF troops: 28,300 (Dec. 1, 2008) according to this link, Australia has 1100 in Afghanistan. http://www.smh.com.au/interactive/2009/world/australians-in-afghanistan/index.html according to this link, only 28% want to go above that. Kevin Rudd reaffirms Afghanistan commitment despite Newspoll http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,,25233895-2702,00.html?from=public_rss according to this article, they had 2 000 invading Iraq, but now it's down to 145. Multinational force in Iraq http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multinational_force_in_Iraq Hope that helps. ;-)

war actually seems necessary, when is killing people necessary? Yes australia is supportive of the "war on terror" as your esteemed former president put it. Were we not there when he invaded the country? The fact that we have also lost brothers, sons and fathers should clearly answer that question. Just because we don't all agree with what is happening, doesn't mean we won't support our fellow soldiers.
