The military is actually taking steps and doing more for the prevention and treatment of this disorder. When my husband returned from Iraq, he had a mandatory 7 day reintegration process to go through with briefings and all kinds of stuff. Spouses were welcome to attend and they gave out a lot of good information. They are also having the guys take surveys and do follow-ups to see how they're doing. Of course this process only works as much as the individual will let it, but steps are being taken.

we can fight the war against it but most military that return this way are in denial about it, and for many the only solution is time or death. My dad was in vietnam and he died last year never getting any better. They tried therapy and talking about it, they tried medication, they tried mental hospitals and all they did was lower the quality of life he lived while he was here. Each command handles it differently and each person handles it differently. But it is fought when acknowledged. If the person you are referring to needs help contact his command and superior officers.
