Is it me or does the Air Force have complete disinterest in recruiting?

I'm interested in joining the military and have been to talk to a recruiter for the Navy and the Army and I have not been able to get in contact with a recruiter for the Air Force. Of the three I want to join the Air Force but I'm wondering how well they're going to take care of me when I get in if I can't even get an appointment to talk to them. Any thoughts...

The Air Force has a lot of people that try to get in it, so they are not as likely to go out of their way to "snag" you like the other services.
Still, it's the best service to join, and if you want to join, I suggest you just go and show up at a recruiting office without an appointment and talk to a recruiter right then and there, and then get an appointment set up. Go after it, believe me, it's worth it. You don't want to end up enlisting in a service that wasn't your first choice.
My recruiter was really honest and straight forward. He told me if I went in open, I'd probably go into the security forces career field, something I was not interested in. So he took care of me, and when the job I wanted was open, he signed me up. No lies, no sugar coating.
Then it depends... But definetally take your life into your hands.

Edit: Just so you know the truth, the Air Force has a lot of people in combat, right in the middle of the war right now. Don't fall for the stigma that Airmen are safely far away. We've got a lot of airmen right where the action is in Iraq, and Afghanistan. ONLY difference, Air Force is *obviously* about Air Power. So you're not stomping the ground, you're helping fly the frag, dropping bombs, moving cargo, moving fuel...

Go to the recruiting office.

The actions (or lack of) of on recruiter certainly does not reflect on the Air Force. Call another recruiter with the Air Force or go online

yes..try showing up at the recruiting office, they might want to SEE you.
The military doesn't have to take care of you...YOU do a job...

Unlike other branches, the Air Force does not advertise themselves as much as say, the Army. They don't need to.

They do for now because the government is making everyone cut back on the numbers. Sorry. Go join the Navy or Army since you have been in contact with them.

The Air Force will take care of you better than any other branch of service. They have the most money and provide for their people. Be patient if that's what you want to do.

After I graduated High school, I had someone from the Air Force calling me monthly for 2 years trying to recruit me.

Appearantly they didnt know that I was an overweight, asthmatic girl on the verge of Type 2 diabetes hahahaha

The problem is, the Air Force has 10 times more people, wanting to enlist, than they have slots to enlist.

So the recruiters are very busy.

Have you tried going to thier office?

The Air Force are the only recruiters, that do not have quotas anymore.

Ross
The Air Force in reducing its numbers. It needs less people so they recruit less. The Navy is larger and the Army is even larger and growing. The greater the need for new recruits will determine the amount of effort put into recruitment.

Ron g
go to the office, and if no one is there, leave a note with your name and number. This is what i did. Their office was always empty so i had to call alot to finally talk the the recruiter. They do not put much resources into recruiting like the other branches. Dont take it personally. I got the exact job i wanted.

what is it that you want to do?

for instance, I dont know much but my brother is in the AF and they are well taken care of there. unlike navy, army. AF live in "hotels" have great food, "easy" jobs. more chill branch. I know from my brother.

on the other hand, I have a friend who goes to the marrins, which is more physical. not the best of the best when comes to homing, food and such

Unlike the other 3 (Army, Marines, and Navy), the Air Force has enough people per say. With the amount of soldiers dying will in combat is causing the Army and Marines to raise their quotas.Whereas, people in the AF are miles away while in combat. So that's probably why they aren't in your face like the Army is.

SSG U.S Army
I'm an Army recruiter. We share a strip mall with all branches. The Air Force is never there and I'm jealous. I don't know where they go, maybe they are out in the city or something. We get a lot of Navy and Air Force applicants join for us because we always have at least one guy in the office.

If you REALLY want to go Air Force then be persistant. I'm sure that they aren't trying to ignore you. They are on for lower numbers and are less aggressive because they are a smaller branch. They also usually have less recruiters than other branches in our area.

Competition is high to get into the Air Force. They've got the reputation of the branch with the "brains," in whatever field. The Marines are the "muscles." The Navy is the technology and intelligence wizzes. And the Army is a little of this and that...

The Air Force may take a while to get to you....people are basically standing in line to get into the AF (it's about the same with the Navy). The Army is about begging people to sign right now. I'm not sure about the Marines. But the AF will get to you a.s.a.p. in an organized manner. Once you get in, they'll take really good care of you, just like any other branch.

If you are looking to be taken care of, the military is not for you.

When I came in, there were two recruiters for my area. Two.
Somebody took us (Depr's) to the MEPS for our physicals, One took me to court to pay a ticket because I didn't have a ride and I had to pay the ticket before I could come in. One of the recruiters came to my parents house and assured
them what I was doing was in my best interests, etc.
Point being, they are busy. Busy. If you can't get hold of yours, take the initiative and call another one. God helps those who helps themselves.

Despite what another responder said, the Air Force does have an enlistment quota. But, they have been consistently meeting it ever since September 11, 2001 as have all the other branches. The difference is that there were plans to reduce the size of the Air Force because it had shifted from a "garrison" Air Force to an Expeditionary Air Force in the past few years. However, Defense Secretary Gates has put a halt to that reduction in force. So, you might see an increase in recruiting effort in the next few months as they have to recompute end strength on the original numbers, not the planned numbers.
There is also one "institutional" factor which might affect how the Air Force views its personnel as well. For the first time ever, neither the Chief of Staff of the Air Force or the Vice Chief of Staff is a fighter pilot. The new Chief of Staff comes from the world of cargo planes and tankers. The new Vice Chief from the bomber community.
