Military enlistment Contract...?

My Hubby wants to join the air force, and he had plains with the recruiter, but my hubby was talking to his dad about joining and his father told him a bunch of stuff and scared him, such as, in the Enlistment contract, that he must serve 2 years in the u.s. and serve 2 yrs out of the country without his family, is this true? How often does the air force get deployed? our recruiter told us "rarely happens, the air force loves there family to much." Is this bunch of bull?

I think yall got pushed around by both sides. I can understand both points of view.
A) The father doesn't want to lose his son, so will try to scare him out of joining. It sounds selfish, but it is only the father's way of trying to keep their kid close...I had a much worse time with my dad when he found out I was joining the army.
B) The Recruiter wants to try to meet his quota, and even though he may be a good person, he will try his hardest to get your husband into the force. I don't think it is that big a deal for Air Force, since they are not really being used, from what I have seen. The most used aerial people are already in the other branches (i.e. Army, Navy, Marine pilots)
And if they do ship him off for two years, I am sure they will let him bring his family. He will be on a base of sorts, and I think I read autobiographies where the author had his family with him on the base. But I could be mistaken. The service isn't trying to torture you. They are trying to make you a stronger individual to do your job.
So anyway, if you are worried about that, I would say join the Army instead; they have family support up the bourgeois. That and they have a LOT of jobs. If he wants to fly, he can be a WO helicopter pilot, or if he doesn't want that, then do a different MOS where he doesn't have to fight, but can have a fulfilling job. Engineer, Computers, PR, Media, Journalism, etc. There are a lot of options in the Army, but it is your decision. |

Take the recruiter with you to speak with his dad - and no it’s not written to serve two years OCONUS, two CONUS. You can get bachelor/unaccompanied tours; there are also IA's where hubby would go alone. Deployments would vary with units and duty station. |
