Should Canada have been involved in the First world war ?

i have to write an essay on this topic and i just wanted other opinions so i could back up my thoughts with things that other people actually think about !! my opinion is they should ahve been involved BECAUSE canada soon became its own nation and broke free from the mother country also we were crazy brave !! what are you opinions and please back them up don't just dis me !! thanks !! you thought will really help my thinking proccess i know canada was involved in world war one ? like was that the proper way to go or should they have said no to britain !

DigitalDiva	The ones who said we had to go to war because we were under the British rule at the time are correct. And yes Canada was involved in WW1 and played a huge part. We had over 200,000 casualties in WW1. But the rude comments about Canada not being involved in the war or still being under the Queen's rule to date show how truly undereducated some Americans are.

Candi P	Technically Canada never actually ever became a sovereign nation. In 1867 when the British North American was first passed it allowed the creation of the dominion of Canada, not the nation of Canada. The dominion allowed Canada to govern herself internally but she still remained a part of the British Empire, much in the same way as Australia and New Zealand did at that time. When Britain went to war in 1914 Canada automatically had to go to war as Britain still controlled all the foreign policy of the state. It was only the passing of the Statute of Westminster in 1931 that removed this control. With the enshrining of the Charter of Rights & Freedoms in Canadian Law in 1982, its was only then that Canada became a defacto sovereign state. However in the dejure interpretation (that is legal interpretation) of sovereignty, the Dominion of Canada with the Queen of Canada as its head of state is still part of the British Empire. second guy got it right.....Since they were still technically part of Britain they were under the Queens rule and had to fight...if they had gone to war just as Canada they wouldn't have been a big enough entity to make a dent.

Vipron	Well Canada is still under the Queens rule. I would look online into Canada's history for more info. As for them being involved in WWI I really don't think they had a big enough military to do any good.
