Should I enroll in the Canadian Forces when I graduate?
|
So recently, I have been putting much thought into enrolling in the Canadian Armed Forces after high school. I was contemplating whether I should or should not, and if I do would I want to be a NCM, or an Officer of some sort. I believe this would be a good route for me to take, I want to defend my country, my family and my friends. I want to feel like I amount to something, and am doing something great. I have looked into many occupations within the military and I came across Military Officer, I am a natural leader and I think this would suit me well. Someone please give me some advice on this, and if you want to tell me not to join, give me your reasons why.

First of all, you won't be defending Canada at all. Only other people in other countries. Remember this; When you join, they own you. You will do whatever it is they say. Maybe you'll march for 13 km with 50 kilos on your back. And they will send you wherever they want. |

Suggestion: find out a lot about military life before you sign up. Talk to some soldiers - not just the recruiters - and think about whether it is the life for you. Another alternative is to join a reserve regiment (militia) while you are still in high school and see if you like it. You can leave the militia on relatively short notice, but you cannot easily leave the regulars. You can also get some idea about the requirements to join the regular force, which can be stringent.
Another thing: on finishing high school, you usually join as an enlisted soldier, not an officer. You may be promoted to a non-commissioned officer after some years of good service. To join as an officer, you need to enrol in Royal Military College, which has tough standards, or to apply after you complete university.
I can't tell you whether or not to join. You alone can decide that. But I would suggest you check it out thoroughly well ahead of time. |

This is a very personal decision to make. It's not for everyone. But, if you do, you will receive a salary, stable work, promotions, benefits - the world is your oyster.
Thank you for your (future) service.
Do it when you graduate.
Maybe, one day, if I become Prime Minister, I will be your Commander-in-Chief. |

I am joining the US air force out when i graduate. There are many options for those who join the military. I can't say there will be same benefits you get but:
1.) It helps your grow up and become independent
2.) It helps you get your college education ( G.I Bill)
3.) Free housing + a month allowance(pay)
4.) You get to see the world. |
