Bring your running shoes if you are not going into the Navy; Navy has their own running shoe program. All other clothing articles the military will provide. |

20 dollars, your enlistment packet, ID, and the clothes on your back. You'll get everything you need either issued to you or from the PX. |

You'll be issued everything you need. Just bring a little money, ID, and a debit card or something in case you need to buy something small. |

Go to Kinkos, and bring the following regulations files on PDF
TRADOC 350-6 (Rules and regulations covering basic training)
http://www.tradoc.army.mil/tpubs/regs/r350-6.pdf
FM 21-20 (Rules and regulations covering physical training)
http://www.hooah4health.com/4you/FM2021-20.pdf
AR 670-1 (Rules and regulations covering wear of the uniform)
http://armypubs.army.mil/epubs/pdf/r670_1.pdf
Uniform Code of Military Justice (This will be a big one)
http://www.apd.army.mil/pdffiles/mcm.pdf
Get these printed into books. Bring these with you to training. If they try to take them from you as "Unauthorized reading material", here is your response. "These are the rules and regulations covering proper conduct in the US Army. If you take these from me, I can't be expected to follow them." They will give you ****, they will try to intimidate you... but wait till an officer catches wind of it. At that point, they will NOT mess with you at all.
If they bring it up to the Sergeant Major or First Sergeant, here's your argument
"Sergeant Major/First Sergeant, I am being told to not read the written regulations regarding proper conduct and instead follow what the Drill Sergeants tell me the rules are. Isn't that the operating method of the terrorists I joined the Army to fight against?" Expect to either get your *** kicked or promoted. Knowledge is power, and the first thing they do is strip you of any and all scraps of power you think you have in order to make you blindly obedient to orders. Hold onto these books, memorize them. In the Army, these books are power (Especially the TRADOC and UCMJ when in basic training). |

Ask your recruiter. But basically, bring your ID, a debit card, two or three pairs of white socks, a week's worth of underwear, your prescription eyeglasses if you have any, a change of clothes (plain colored T shirt or Polo and long pants), running shoes, some stamps, a couple of blue or black ballpoint pens, a small address book with the addresses of your family and close friends so you can write them and get letters, travel sized toiletry items, a small Bible or other religious book, and something to read or listen to or play on your way there. You can bring your phone, but it will be locked up along with your civilian gear. They'll lock up pretty much everything but your socks, underwear, glasses, Bible, and address book. You'll get everything back when you graduate Basic. |
