Will eczema stop me getting into the British army? ?

I have had eczema ever since I was a baby, it used to really bad, but over the years it has improved, except on my hands. When I get too cold they start to get sore and they then get itchy, I scratch them and they're like blisters and they bleed. I have used practically every cream out there to try and sort out my eczema, and have even cut back on citrus fruits because apparently that messes up your skin? And I have a dermatologist. I am allergic to PPD (the black dye found in hair colours and henna) I also can only use certain soaps (although that has improved recently) and I can't use body lotions or bath salts. Will this affect my chances of being able to join the British army as a doctor? Thanks for your help xxx

It is unlikely that you would be able pass the initial medical.

In theory the Army isn't supposed to allow you to join if you have a skin condition, including eczema. I have mild psoriasis on my right arm, however the doctor who did my medical wasn't bothered and I managed to join the army last year (or last last year, oct 2008). I now get prescriptions from the Army for it. However you appear to have severe eczema. If you have a skin condition on you hands or feet that's basically a guaranteed no, especially as an Army doctor (hygeine). Don't give up though, my psoriasis improved dramatically a few months ago. Enquire at a careers office about the situation, and good luck!
