Would anyone know if you can live off base durning AIT?

I ask because the training I have in mind is 42 weeks long, plus 10 weeks Basic. I would be gone for 1 year from start to finish. That would not be worth it to me. Then most likely get stationed over seas for who knows how long. Thanks

Ed	Not when I was in the Army.

Mrsjvb	if you are single you are not authorized to live off base until you are at your first duty station and at least an E5.

R	Maybe...but only if you were married. The rules vary for each TRADOC post concerning off-base living arrangements for students. Certain criteria other than a long AIT has to be satisfied first before anyone is allowed to live off base. EDIT: Your definition of "long" may not fit the Army's definition of long. It may be 50+ weeks of AIT before they allow you to move off base. And again, only if you are married and your spouse comes down to live with you.

Harold Osorio	I believe the rules are if your AIT is over 20 weeks long, you are allowed to move your family to your AIT location and I think after 11 weeks, you are allowed to live with them. Whether or not you will be living on base is up to your station. If there is housing available on base, they're not likely to approve off base housing. However if the base is full, they'll approve off base housing.
