Do you like siting in a car for 12+ hours? How about standing in one spot saying "ID please"..."Have a nice day."?
That's what you'll do as Security Forces until you get a decent rank, then you get to drive around to do law enforcement.
My husband is security forces and an E-3. He does not like it at all, and is thinking about voluntary separation. All he does is sit in a car and watch to make sure people that aren't cleared don't go within 100 feet of certain buildings. On the base we're at, you have to be an E-4 or above to do any law enforcement, and even then you aren't guaranteed to get off guard duty.
My husband thought the training was pretty fun, not too challenging (but he was a civilian cop to start out with). He likes the law enforcement part (has gotten to do a ride along with one of his Sergent's one day), but does not like the sitting around all day. Yes, it is basically an easy paycheck, but he wanted a job that would be even more hands on and would keep him busy. |
