you got to have a high school deploma and yes you will about the job you chose. talk to your nearest recruiter

GO TO SCHOOL and not just highschool...CONTINUE YOUR EDUCATION ON TO COLLEGE. Don't go into the military beacuse you feel obligated to serve or want the gov't to pay for your schooling (which they do on a very, very limited basis). Really suggest against serving in the armed forces now. If you must serve than GO NAVY...you're less likeley to get a bullet up the **** and yet you can still be considered a "hero" because of your service. PEACE!

YOU CAN GET YOUR EDUCATION OUTSIDE OF THE SERVICE WHEN YOU COMPLETE YOU LINE OF DUTY, THE PAY A CERTIN AMOUNT AND SOMETIMES IF YOU DON'T TALK TO THEM ABOUT IT BEFORE YOU JOIN THEY WON'T PAY FOR YOUR COLLEGE SO LET THEM KNOW WHAT YOUR PLANS ARE AHEAD OF TIME.

Here's the real deal, some of the other answers were totally incorrect as well as just plain asinine. I've been in both the USMC and the U.S. Army. First of all, you must have a diploma or a G.E.D. to join. You must be at least 17yrs (with parental approval).
Your recruiter will ask you if you want the G.I.Bill (college tuition). Your answer should be a resounding yes. You can take classes and obtain a degree going to school part time while in the service (just like going to college with a full time job in the civilian world) or you can wait and apply your full attention to school when you get out, and still utilize the G.I.Bill. There are a myriad of ways the Military will help with your education. Don't be afraid to ask your recruiter questions. I RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY. Once your in, their are career counselors to help you along the way. Remember, the military is not for everyone. Question yourself as to your motives for joining.
