Bill Gates is negotiating with Chinese officials to test a new type of nuclear reactor
One of the world's richest men, Bill Gates is negotiating with Chinese officials to test a new type of nuclear reactor that can operate for decades with depleted uranium. It would be used in China because of U.S. laws do not permit experiments with the new reactor.
Bill Gates is known by most people as the man behind Microsoft and the foundation that bears his name. There are many but those who know that this is the president of a new company called TerraPower. The company recently created a reactor that can run on depleted uranium, a residue which is obtained from uranium enrichment and reprocessing. Even Bill Gates told CBS that the idea of this reactor is to be very cheap, reliable and generate as little waste.

Huge amounts of uranium are present throughout the world. Thus, TerraPower make this uranium into fuel that can be used to generate energy. Since February this year, Wall Street Journal wrote that TerraPower looking for a country to carry out experiments with the new reactor because U.S. laws do not permit. Currently in the U.S., there are 700,000 tons of depleted uranium. When using reactor Gates, 8 tons of depleted uranium could generate 25 million MW of electricity, ie the need for 2.5 million households for one year. Gates recently spoke about the reaction to the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology for proper and it seems that China could take the tests. But Gates said that discussions are just getting started.
