Lavrov: U.S. radar that wants to install in Turkey will cover part of Russia
Radar on the U.S. intends to deploy in Turkey, the missile shield will control an important part of Russian territory, Russian foreign minister said Thursday, Sergei Lavrov, after a NATO-Russia Council meeting, held in Brussels.
"To control the southern regions of the NATO member states and there is already a working radar a long time. Allow control area where, according to Americans and their NATO colleagues, from threats," he said.
"When a new radar will be held in Turkey, its role is simply to double the existing radar, allowing at the same time to control a large part of Russia," Russian foreign minister added.
Turkey decided in September to host a radar in NATO missile shield. System to be installed in Malatya province, in southeastern Turkey, where there is already a Turkish air base and terrestrial forces.
At the NATO summit in Lisbon in November last year, Russia and NATO have agreed to cooperate in the shield, but if NATO supports two missile systems to be independent from the exchange of information, Russia wants a joint interoperability full.
