RCS & RDS could become the fourth mobile operator in Hungary
The regulator in the telecommunications sector in Hungary announced Friday that a total of six companies have submitted the documents required to be included in the tender procedure for granting new licenses for mobile transmit portofolio.hu.
According to authorities, the necessary documents have been received from the following companies: Telenor Magyarország Zrt., Magyar Posta Zrt. (Hungarian Post), RCS & RDS S.A. (cable operator in Romania), Vodafone Magyarország Zrt., Magyar Telekom Nyrt. and Group Viettel (a mobile operator in Vietnam). Documents received will be reviewed and this process would be completed by 2 January 2012. Where will prove justified, the authority may require participants to remedy deficiencies in their documents.
Currently in Hungary operates three mobile operators: Telenor ASA (Norway), Vodafone Group PLC (United Kingdom) and Magyar Telekom Nyrt. (company owned by German group Deutsche Telekom AG).
RCS & RDS is a leading provider of cable television services in Romania and Hungary. The businessman Zoltan Teszari has 43% of RCS & RDS, other shareholders are investment funds Epic and Quadrant and some Romanian businessmen and company managers.
Recently, the Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR) announced that the company gave RCS & RDS, one of the top players in the local market of IT & C, a loan of 101 million euros. The loan is part of a syndicated financing facility of up to 300 million euros, which was also attended by CEC Bank and Credit Suisse.
