Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic, in charge of negotiations with the EU, resigned
Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic, in charge of negotiations with the European Union has announced his resignation Friday after the bloc postponed until February decision to award candidate status for membership of his country.
"Had said that unless we get candidate status, and keep my word I will resign," said the official Serbian media before.

Bozidar Djelic described as "regrettable" postpone the decision on Serbia, adding that Belgrade "will not change its policy" and will continue dialogue with Pristina, a condition required by the European Union to grant candidate status. "We have met all commitments and we still did what was possible to get status," he said Djelic.

Belgrade hopes to summit in Brussels green light for candidacy to the EU. European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, announced that the EU decision will be taken at ministerial level in February, with "clear objective to grant candidate status", to be confirmed in future summit in March.
