Slovakia has rejected the expansion of the European Stability
Slovak parliament voted Tuesday night against measures to extend the mandate for financial stability mechanism in the euro area, considered vital in the fight against deficits crisis.
Coalition government tied vote a motion of confidence and should resign.
Slovakia is the last of the 17 euro area member states voted on the expansion of European financial stability mechanism.
According to BBC News, a second vote could take place soon and will probably succeed.
Package put to the vote did not receive 21 votes for, but the result was expected, according to the minority party in the ruling coalition announced that they will abstain. SAS Party said that it opposes the Slovak population to pay debts to cover richer countries.
Much of the population believes that their country, one of the poorest in the euro area should not save countries like Greece.
Government officials said they would seek approval mechanism in a second vote, with opposition support, but no date has been set.
Opposition Socialist party humble, which also abstained, will probably support the measure, but will impose tough conditions, including the convening of elections. After the vote Tuesday evening, humble announced that the four parties in the ruling coalition to make them tender.
"We say 'no' right-wing government, but say 'yes' relief fund," said the humble leader, Robert Fico, during the debate.
Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radicova later announced that it has asked the coalition partners to begin discussions with the humble.
All other 16 states that joined the single currency has approved changes that EU leaders had presented as crucial to solving the deficit crisis that has already resulted in three countries in the euro area to seek rescue packages.
The package provides additional funds available to financial stability mechanism 440 billion.
The crisis in the euro area is in the spotlight before the EU summit on 23 October in Brussels, and the meeting of G20 leaders, on 3-4 November in Cannes.
