Britain and Hungary, countries which have not adopted the common currency, the two countries were opposed to the EU treaty change, said Friday morning at a press conference, French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
"We do our best to save the euro," assured the French President.

The 17 states which are part of the euro area will negotiate a new intergovernmental agreement to strengthen fiscal discipline and will join their six countries which have not joined the common currency, announced Friday morning EU President Herman Van Rompuy.

EU official called non-euro area countries will join the decisions which will take leaders of the 17 states that have already adopted the single currency.

EU leaders agreed on Thursday night, in the conclusion of an intergovernmental agreement between euro area countries to strengthen fiscal discipline, but failed to change the EU Treaty, in particular due to British opposition.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has put conditions on which France and Germany they considered "unacceptable".
