Several thousand people protested yesterday in Warsaw against the Government's intention to support the anti-crisis measures adopted by EU leaders summit in Brussels. Eurosceptics and the opposition claim that the intergovernmental agreement is a way to bring socialism in Poland and the partial transfer of sovereignty.
Polish opposition Conservatives accused the pro-European Donald Tusk that Poland's interests betrayed by intention to apply the measures adopted by EU leaders summit in Brussels. Grievances were expressed during an event to commemorate the 30th anniversary of martial law adopted by the communist authorities in Poland against the opposition at that time, trade union Solidarity.



"I went through communism, socialism, and notes that the EU leaders were part of the Western Communist parties and will now impure socialism," said one of the protesters.



Prime Minister Donald Tusk argues, however, that an intergovernmental agreement of the kind adopted by EU leaders will bring security and prosperity of Poland.



"This is certainly an anniversary that should make us reflect on the obligations and limits of power - both in Soviet times and now, when we have a democratic regime," said Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk.



Poland was the largest communist European Union member state. Poland currently holds the EU presidency and was the only state in the Union was not affected by the global economic crisis.
